After we checked into the Oak Hostel, it was after dark and we were starving. So, we grabbed some food and spent the evening relaxing. It was a welcomed environment after a day full of traveling. We called it an early night with plans to start early the next day.
We headed to the Tsukiji Fish Market once we were up and functioning. We couldn't go to the tuna auction that the market is famous for because they close it off to the general public that time of year, but we were able to walk around the warehouse. It was pretty cool! I'm not gonna lie, I didn't expect to like it as much as I did.
After we walked through the warehouse and the street market, we were both craving sushi (naturally, I suppose). We found a nice restaurant with no wait (the hardest task) and a reasonable price tag. We had some wonderful sashimi! I don't think you can go wrong, really. Overall, the fish market did not let us down. It's a must see, in my opinion!
If we're being completely honest, Mark and I hadn't planned to spend any time in Tokyo outside of passing through for travel purposes. We have found that neither of us love the city. We like to get off the beaten path and find places that aren't so busy. However, we made the most of our time and decided to check out the Imperial Palace.
We ate lunch at a Hibiya Koen, a park nearby, and enjoyed the afternoon. We loved how the city was built up across the street, but it was so calm and quiet where we were. Both of us were enjoying the weather, the food, and a day to have no real plans.
We decided to take the bullet train to Nagoya the next morning to start the adventure to Seki City. So, we bought our tickets at Tokyo Station and figured out train times before heading back to our hotel. It was a low-key day and in hindsight we couldn't be more grateful. The next day was going to be a MAJOR adventure and that's exactly what I'll be talking about next week!
