Foodie Pen Pals - February!

This month, I tried a different kind of mail exchange. Instead of craft projects, I exchanged food stuff! I thought it would be a fun, different way to share our experience on island. I also love to get mail so I'll pretty much sign up for everything that involves packages! I sent my package to A. Hershberger (Check it out by clicking her name).

The Lean Green Bean

Most importantly, I got my package on time and was super excited to open it up! Holly Johnson from Running & Baking, Oh My! was paired with me. I think there was a littttllleee miscommunication on my part because I think she may think I'm Japanese. You see, I emailed her quickly after the matches were sent out to tell her that I lived here so that she would know the mail would take a bit longer. However, when I got the package the note was written as if I wasn't from the US. It was cute and endearing and totally my fault!

You've gotta love all of those bright colors! I'm sure you can guess from the above picture that my package was Mardi Gras themed. It was festive and awesome! One of the rules with FPP is that you have to put something written in the package. Holly chose to give me some background on Mardi Gras, which ended up giving me a little education lesson. In said letter she talks about how Mobile, AL is known as the founder of Mardi Gras... who would have thought?!

She included the above tasty treats. It wasn't until I was taking these photos that I realized the King treat is only 90 calories! I'm super excited to eat that. Mark takes his lunch to work every day so the chips will be a nice change up from the regular 100 calorie bags that I typically make him take.

She also sent some healthy snack bars. The funny thing is, there were actually three in the box. Well, I was taking photos.... and it looked really tasty.... whoops! It was, in fact delish (a blueberry muffin bar)!

Holly also included some awesome, homemade jambalya mix and the recipe cards to match. I'm really excited about this! In fact, I wanted to make it for dinner tonight but we didn't have all the ingredients. It's on the menu for next week, for sure.

Lastly, she included some cookies from a local bakery. I mentioned that I really like homemade cookies and she admitted to be more of a cupcake girl. I don't blame her for buying them! Again, there were actually three in the box to begin with. However, Mark ate one before I could even finish looking through the whole box!

Holly -- Thanks so much for the package! You really started my FPP experience off on the right food... I mean foot! Cheers!

  4. Hey Kassie! I have been out of town, and I couldn't comment from my phone :(. I'm glad you received your box on time and liked everything. I'm sorry about the letter, I knew you weren't from Japan...lol! I figured you were from up North and might now know a lot about Mardi Gras, oopsy! I am glad to see the cookies made their way over safely, I hope they were still tasty and not too dried out!
